Over the past few weeks, we've been keeping a close eye on how the Majority Accountability Project would embrace its mission to "Keep the Majority Accountable," and level the playing field.Today, they hit a homer against one Freshman Democrat in upstate New York, Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-20) and it's a case worth-noting as a model for what's to come this cycle. It started with MajorityAP.com breaking the news that Kirsten Gillibrand had traveled to both London and France for campaign donations.Traveling overseas to raise money isn't against the law (as long as the contributions are not from foreign nationals). But coupled with Gillibrand's own statements which she lashed out at her opponent, former Rep. John Sweeney, it's another case of saying one thing to get elected - and doing another once elected. "Hypocrisy" is a great way to describe it.Read on . . . As MajorityAP.com reported:During her 2006 campaign for U.S. Congress, Kirsten Gillibrand ripped her opponent, then-Rep. John Sweeney, for holding a ski weekend fundraiser in Park City, Utah, jabbing him with a reminder that "there's a lot of great skiing" in New York state. In a fit of irony, Gillibrand, who promised to "lead by example," called Sweeney hypocritical for hosting a fundraiser out of state at the same time he was seeking Congressional reforms."John Sweeney may talk reform," her campaign said, "but his actions speak much louder than his words." Sweeney's trip was also criticized for sending "a terrible message and do(ing) nothing to encourage the all-important tourist industry (in New York)."This is a news story that likely would have never been told to the voters of New York. But, fortunately, thanks to MajorityAP.com, it has been told.Last week, the Albany Times Union blog, "Capitol Confidential," picked up on the story. The liberals at "The Albany Project" fired away at the "wingnuts" for bringing this issue to light defending Gillibrand as "the excellent-in-every-way member of Congress for NY-20."The Gillibrand story was then covered with a brief in the political column of the Post-Star.And just this morning, Kirsten Gillibrand woke up, read her local daily newspaper, and found this story on the front-page of the Albany Times-Union.Over the weekend, Michael Brady and Michael Giuliani, the duo behind MajorityAP.com, put together a pretty funny vlog on this issue for their weekly YouTube show, "The Majority Report."The bottom line is that thanks to MajorityAP.com, Democrats like Kirsten Gillibrand, are now being placed under the same scrutiny that Republicans were under during the 2006 cycle by 30+ liberal organizations. The playing field is leveling out.And that's a good thing. My only suggestion is that someone launch a "Minority Accountability Project" to better keep tabs on wayward Republicans too. More accountability among both parties is a good thing.
